     The parents and the first four children were taken from the 1860 Fort Covington ( Franklin County N.Y. Federal census house # 326 ) as this is all the information I have gathered so far...

    NELSON is a mystery, If the age is correct he was born when his parents were 11 & 13, further reasearch done on this family shows that they did adopted more than once, and or raised other family members children, or he was Peters younger brother?

The information on the other five children were taken from a later 1875 state census of Franklin Co. and the 1880 federal census, and news paper obituarys and church records.

        I am writing this report on 11/28/05. This family has been so elusive that for five years I stopped looking, I now believe they moved to Worchester Mass. for a while looking for work. There was a large French settelment at the time in Worchester and they would have felt comfortable there, I know my fathers family the Phelps Bertrand / Freeman Barton’s moved there at least twice, from Malone N.Y. and had two children born there, they did settle down in Malone before moving to Rome N.Y. Oneida Co. in 1926.

    I have just recently discovered from a Malone N.Y. News Paper article dated 1935 that Nelson, William, and Frank Russell were living in Worchester Mass. Alexander was in Carthage N.Y. and Edward in NYC.
