Deviled Egg wall quilt by Beth |
Bob Murdock Ingredients: 1 dozen eggs, large or XL 1/2 cup Kraft Real Mayo 1 rounded tsp. mustard 1 tsp. finely minced white onion A few shakes of white pepper (Never black) Paprika Put the eggs in a pan of cold water, with the water level a half inch to an inch above the eggs. I usually have the pan covered during this process. Bring to a rolling boil (make sure it's boiling, not just making some noise). Turn off the flame, and with the cover on the pan, let it sit for 20 minutes. Drain, and run cold water into the pan, again covering by half an inch or so. Crack the eggs and peel them. I have adopted Nancy's method of cracking all of the eggs, and leaving them in the cold water, before peeling them. Slice the eggs in half lengthwise. Put all the yolks in a mixing bowl, and place the white halves on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Mash the egg yolks until all the chunks are gone. Nancy likes to use a food processor, but I do it by hand with a pastry blender. Add mayo, mustard, onion, and white pepper, and mix well. Spoon the mix into the egg halves. This used to be a nervioso job for me until I realized they don't all have to look perfect. Holding the paprika well above the cookie sheet, carefully sprinkle all across the whole pan. You may want to practice into the sink or something, to get a good technique. Refrigerate, in a covered deviled egg holder or equivalent. Enjoy! |

Valerie Davidson Dec. 19: On the happy news front, the school district has belatedly granted me two full years' teaching credit, which boosts my salary a bit. But I'm still a mile and a half behind my salary in printing. We keep our lifestyle simple and cheap. For instance, Larry and I enjoy great cooking with prime ingredients (organic veggies, for instance), and call that our entertainment budget. He has become such a great chef that he generally refuses to go out and eat inferior food (he has a good point there). My totally unbiased opinion of his cooking is -- yep! It's better to eat at home. However, we three (including Jerod) still maintain our ritual of going to Chevy's whenever one of us has a birthday. We're in a happy rut on that front. Larry and I also continue to make our weekly trek to the library for another sackful of VHS tapes to watch during the week. Cable television keeps getting more expensive in inverse proportion to the quality of the programming, so thank heavens for these free supplements from the library's extensive collection. Unfortunately, it's also a waning collection, as tapes wear out or disappear (the fate of most of the best classics). Well, here's hoping you have a wonderful Christmas and a joyous new year. |

Carol Murdock Dec. 21: Just wanted to wish you a very Merry Christmas. Hope you are doing well. I am sorry to hear about Nancy's injury. I hope her knee is better soon. My mom just fell several weeks ago and broke her hip; she had to have surgery and a partial hip replacement. She is now walking with a walker. She is not able to drive yet, which is probably good. She is finally getting some rest. She is back to her bubbly self though. We enjoyed your visit when you came to California. Robert is expecting a little boy in April. He may name him Robert. That would mean 4 generations of Roberts - pretty wonderful! Well, love and best wishes for Christmas. |

Becky Murdock Dec. 9: Well, it is Sat. and I am finally back home from quite an ordeal. This procedure wiped me out this time. I had to be at the hospital at 6:00 on Friday so the surgery could start at 7:00 (which it did). Everything went well. He ended up putting two more stents in my artery because he couldn't get the right size that he wanted; so to be safe, he just used two. I guess it was a section that already had a stent, but it was already closing with plaque. So he went in and put two new ones in there to open it back up. I have to get back on track of eating right, because I see what the wrong diet does to you. I was getting very lazy, and this was the result. I can take nothing for granted on this. He said my heart looks really healthy and happy otherwise. He said I can continue my volleyball, gym etc. Well, I guess I will write later; I am really wiped out and want to put on my pj's and veg for a while. |

Carol Howlett This has been a special year for us. On October 15th we were married 40 years. Pastor Allen made the announcement: “Doug and Carol were married 40 years ago, the flowers on the altar are from them, and they were married right here. How cool is that!” We were congratulated by many as we left church. The enclosed picture was taken for the Church Directory in August. We had a free 8x10 and will get a copy of the Directory, plus we had the chance to purchase additional pictures, so we bought some wallets. It was good to see so many at John and Cathy’s. The ride up was brutal and we arrived a lot later than we had planned. An update on our grandchildren: Chris & Angel’s-- Brittany 12, Gaitlyn 10 Rob and Willow’s-- Thor Foster 2 (on Jan. 11) Dave and Rose’s-- Gage Paul, 11 Tamara Brandy Ann, 6 Hope everyone has a nice Christmas and a Happy 2007! |

Anna Brugge Thank you for your Christmas greetings. I know that this was a special time of the year for you and Lynda. She always looked forward to going to Washington, D.C. to see all the sights and museums. We miss her so very much. Having all the beautiful quilts that you made for her makes me feel closer. They are very much part of our lives. All of Lynda's friends have been so supportive to us. Pat and Sandy have been here for a visit, and Pat calls us every couple of weeks. Nancy, you live a very active life. I wish that you had stopped by when you were in California. We live just a little over an hour from Carmel. Maybe you went through Menlo Park when traveling north. Next time be sure and stop. Was so sorry to hear of your accident, Nancy. You are very brave to use crutches. When I broke my ankle, I could not manage them, as I kept falling. Guess it was my age that I was afraid to really try. We congratulate you both for being married 56 years. We have been married for a couple years longer. It will be 59 years on April 11. Time goes by much too fast. We are always happy to hear from you. Sorry that I know so little about operating the computer. Just too old to learn. Have a wonderful Christmas, with the best of health for the coming year. [Ed. Note: Anna’s daughter Lynda was a wonderful friend. She always had ideas for going places and knew when the museums had new shows. To Bob and me, she was a vital part of our life, and we really miss her. She was a great organizer and encouraged us to make group quilts for special occasions. She died just before her 50th birthday, in February 2002. Click here to see our Muse eulogy. –NAM] |
