Where We Left September

We left September
in the backseat of
a blue Mitsubishi
where two sleepy
boys were wrapped
in the sunshine saved
over from the seashore

We left September's
smiley-faced moon
dangling above star-kissed ocean
where only seagulls cry

We left September with
sandy toes and dolphin dreams
with sweet sniffs of little
boy's cheeks and a sculpture
in the sand that the waves
would leave behind until October

Where we left September is
in God's mighty hands
as His warmth of giving
lasts for infinite months.
Only so many drops of
His love can be poured
into our September ocean
