Lost Mermaid
This captain, he's seen her
Once, then maybe again
Lily, bright young mermaid
That the town calls a friend
She swims past the rock pile
On nights of soft moon
She sings like an angel
He's heard of this tune
But if there's another
Sweet mermaid out there
It's her sister Shell
With sea-sparkled hair
Shell is said to be lost
To sharp reefs at sea
Sister Lil calls for her
In mellow, plaintive key
On this day so tranquil
He sets sail to find
The sister-fish...but songs
Are what is on his mind
Sounds to hear when sailing
Grow quiet miles from shore
Lilting call for mermaids
Come from the ocean floor
He peers through high waves
That rock his cranky ship
He knows without question
This might be his last trip....
