Elizabeth took up with a radical political group and met Lawrence Kirbridge, a budding poet. They fell in love but did not believe in marriage. However, at the prodding of their parents, marriage was inevitable.

Alas, the marriage only lasted 6 months...Elizabeth returned to Eaton Place carrying another man's child – a fact she didn't know when she tried to get the marriage annuled. Years later, she eventually married an American lawyer, moved to New York and found happiness at last.
One of the most memorable events at Eaton Place took place in early spring 1909. King Edward VII came to dine with the Bellamys. Everything was wonderful – Mrs Bridges excelled herself preparing an elaborate and unforgettable TWELVE COURSE menu. Things went smoothly until a very pregnant Sarah returned to Eaton Place in full labor.
"Guest of Honour" is the most repeated of all Upstairs Downstairs episodes.
Lady Prudence Fairfax, a wealthy widow, was Lady Marjorie's closest and dearest friend. They share a lovely sisterly bond – Lady Marjorie often tells Lady Pru family confidences that she shares with no one else. Whether it is a crisis or celebration, trust Pru to be there with an warm and understanding heart.
At the close of Season II, the Bellamys gather to celebrate two special occasions: Lady Marjorie's birthday and son James' engagement. There is much festivity both above and below stairs, but the rejoicing is cut short by news of the King's death.
