Chapter 20

May 1, 2002

We took this little jaunt about 2 weeks ago and forgot to send it. We haven't been anywhere new, just staying in N.J. Have to hit the lottery so we can take a long trip. Trying to get back to our normal way of life but seems like we get caught up in family things. We went out today but I haven't got that composed in my mind yet. haha, so sending this one along. Vel picked me up at 11am. It was sort of a chilly overcast day. Sun was in and out. We drove about 40 miles SW. actually were thinking of heading down to Delaware. Haha, Wrong! Did manage to find a dead end where there was a boat yard. in a little old town, Port Elizabeth. it is very quaint, and most of the houses sit right up to the sidewalk. We drove up and down several streets and then at the boat yard, took a couple of pics.

After we left there we somehow managed to turn and were heading north, ended up on a highway that we used to take when we went to Cherry Hill for my chelation treatments, although we didn't get off there til many miles above/ Have no idea where we went from there but did get on route 29 which rides along the River. Beautiful scenery, Past a lot of hugh ex farms, which are now big developement of homes. Boy, ya wonder where people get the money for these places. Only thing is it is still very barren and looks sort of cold, no trees. It will take years for the ones they do have to grow. After a while we got hungry, and had to P. finally found a diner. Food was good, but neither of us had breakfast or lunch so I think anything would taste good. This was around 1pm. No ritas, nor dessert, We continued out drive on all country roads, finally came to a place called Washington Crossing. What a beautfiul place. must cover miles. This pic was taken as we entered the park.

It is like a tall tower with winding stairs, no windows, couple hundred steps and you can see NY, Pa, and NJ from the top. I had been there many years ago. There are lots of places to park and the Delaware River winds along the whole area. We were on the canal that branches off into the park. It is really pretty. There were several areas here and there that had benches and tables, nice parkng areas and so peaceful. So restful, although we did not get out of the car. Vel's back was bothering here. Hey Vel, next time we have to get out and walk a little, my legs were so stiff fom sitting. Between the two of us, wow, talk about 2 achey old women. haha Anyway, we did take a couple of pics, which I am sending along.

http://albums.photo.epson.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=4000599&a=30060884&p=60744587&f=0 We stopped again to eat, around 6:30pm. We were about 100 miles from home or close to it. We saw so many beautiful flowers and dogwood trees. Really made you realize just how lovely Spring is. Never boring when all is in bloom. We decided to head toward home. Had no idea where we were or how to get back to the east side of Jersey, we ended up crossing a bridge, so now we are in Pa. on the opposite side of the river. Drove along there for quite a distance, so pretty, could see the rocks in the river so it looked like small rapids. Neat. Finally we crossed back over to the Jersey side, and continued on til we came to a circle then headed towards the Garden State Parkway. Got on entrance 82, so that meant we were 50 miles from home. We had a great day, just a yaking and laughing about all kinds of things, Of course we talked about our kids, grands, aches and pains, and all of you. (nothing bad of course) one thing we lead such interesting lives we have a lot to talk about . haha. Have no idea how far we traveled, all I know is we were gone for 10 hours, got home near 9pm. and we were out of the car for about 2 in order to eat and P. No wonder we get stiff. . Enjoy the few pics we got. Everytime we use the camera. have to learn all over again. All in all we had a wonderful day. Hope you all have a good day today. Lots of hugs to all. The pics of the dogwoods are at the entrance to Washington Crossing. This is where George crossed the Delaware on the dark Christmas Eve. Absolutely a place to visiit more than once. I know this is long, but you know me by now, once I start I just ramble on and on. Vel and I should be 20 years younger, wow could we cover the territory then, might even get out of the car and climb those hills. haha. Hope you enjoy our little day of going back in history.
