Jul 23, 2000 Vi and Vel's jaunt~~Looong Read Started off from Marmora and I drove the new car. Wow, I was nervous at first but being the old hand I am at driving, didn't take me long to be comfortable at the wheel. Really a nice car. Didn't know for sure where to go so we headed west to Mays Landing and took back roads on to Weymouth. Passed a couple of parks that we have been too, lots of people and cars, nope, did not want to stop there. wanted to get away from crowds. So we continued on until we came to a highway. ooops did not want that so took a turn north and was in Hammonton farm country. Wide open spaces and very scenic. Oh gosh another highway, just could not get away from 206 but I guess it was meant to be. Saw a brown sign. Atsion St Park, so in we went, toll booth, had to stop, it is now $7.00 for each car. Had been there before but guess it was early in spring and did not notice , although the booth looked new. It wasn't real crowded, at least we found a place to park. There smack in the center is a big building, where there are rest rooms and lockers if you want to change.Of course I always carry my bag with a bathing suit, cover up, sandals and a towel, Vel said I should go in, but I said "No" we still had a whole day and I didn't want to get all wet. anyway we did walk down to the water. A beautiful lake surrounded by trees, To the left of us was a nature trail for those who can walk, and to the right was the beach. Really a nice place. had a lifegruard and it was roped off so you could not go way out, but deep enough to enjoy a good swim. We were in a small area and there was a dog way out in the water bringing a ball in. We were surprised to see him so far out, and wondered where he came from. He belonged to a young couple with a little baby sitting there. They were very friendly. The dog tried to bury the ball. Across the lake were cabins and of course we wanted to check them out so we went back to the car, thinking we could get there from the park. Wrong!! had to leave the park and drive down a few blocks. we laughed because we paid the $7.00 to actually take a 5 min look at the lake and did drive around the parking lot two times. haha, Well the cabins were very nice and faced the lake. also saw tents down further facing the water. It was really a nice family campground. Now we are on back roads and we drove miles and miles had no idea where we were by then, one minute heading north, then east, then southwest..We saw so many beautiful mansions sitting in among the trees. We mentioned how they fit into the site that Bee had sent about cutting down trees to make lawns , then cutting the lawn and hauling the grass away, remember that? well these people had the right idea. It was just beautiful in the natural state. Of course all the time we are laughing and looking at the different homes. just wondering what they looked like inside etc. By this time it is near 4 pm and still did not visit a restroom, so we were both getting antsy. but we continued on and were in a place called Medford Lakes. We were heading east now.and all of a sudden we are back on jct. 206, which way to go, oh well went north, continued on that road till all of a sudden we were only 7 miles from Trenton, our state capital, No way did I want to drive in that traffic, so make another turn, now on 166 south. Good, now maybe we can find a place to eat and pee. Hit a lot of traffic, don't know where everyone was going but then it is a Saturday so that accounts for a lot of it. We finally come to another big highway, East is Seaside Heights, no way, in the summer time that place is a mad house. and we didn't want to go west, had just been over there, so we went straight, Vel had seen a green awning so we figured it was a place to eat. We pulled in and parked. It was a nice big place called The Office. We had our margaritas, they were good. Ordered Prime Rib, and salad. It was good, but then when you haven't eaten anything all day, anything tastes good. I won't go into detail about the place, it was different, sort of like levels of tables, had a sushi bar, yuk! a nice waiter, some odd paintings on the walls, other than that nothing exciting. We left there around 6:30, Vel took the wheel then. and boy did we hit traffic, must have been an accident, lot of police, detouring the traffic. We were in Toms River, found that out when we looked at the menu.No matter which way you looked it was bumper to bumper cars. It took us an hour to travel about 15 miles, i think that is what Vel said. I know she checked the mileage. Once out of the traffic we had a nice leisurely ride home. We just talked about the Branson trip and looking forward to getting away and I guess we discussed everything, even talked about the grannies. now there is an interesting subject. haha. Lots of fun and learn a lot. We arrived home around 8:45 so we sat in the driveway talking about the different features of the car. especially how the lights and locks work. Haven't figured it out yet. So we said our goodbyes and that is the end of another adventure. Nothing exciting but very enjoyable. We did see a lot of water, that is what we like. Last week it was the Delaware river when we had our picnic. Next week we will have a picnic. Don't want to get into any habits. hahaha. Lots of hugs to you all, and thanks for taking the time to read this story about nothing.
