We take rt 50. from Marmora, and continue to Mays Landing where we pick up 40. That takes you through a lot of small towns, cities, and farm land. Really a great ride. Most of the cities on the way are very old, especially Salem where the streets are lined with old brick homes, No front yards, their front door are almost on the sidewalks I guess the streets were stagecoach paths at one time. They say back in those days they built the homes close to the roads because of the snow. Guess they didn't want to shovel too much, haha. Anyway we have been through these towns many many times. Always something new to see, but they have changed, have a lot of farm workers and factory workers now, In fact when you go in a store you feel like you are in a foreign country with the different languages, Spanish, Oriental, Indian, etc. Anyway, we just enjoyed the scenery, the trees haven't started to change color yet, we need more rain. but out in the country you will find a lot of small farm markets dotted along the highway. Ha, shouldn't really say highway, It is a 2 lane road which as been tarred or maybe with asphalt. I don't know the difference.
Anyway, at least we got a chance to rest, even if we didn't fit that good in the chairs. LOL. talk about heavy, heavy what hangs over. Anyway, it was good, then we started looking around. Really didn't know what we wanted, didn't see any pumpkins or flowers. Looks at sweat shirts, they were pretty nice, but didn't want them. looked a pocket books, towels, etc, but not for us. Finally went into the main building. This looks like an old airplane hanger. Was greeted by a man giving away flyers about becoming a Born Again. Not against any religion, but sure didn't like him. What an attitude for supposedly a man of religion. Of course, I listened to him a few min. but really wanted to punch him one just for his mannerisms. Left him while he was still talking. I wanted to shop. haha Had all kinds of stands, some nice things, also some old stuff. Nothing really took my eye, except a pretty ring, but didn't get it. All kinds of wrist watches. too. Anyway, Vel was way ahead of me, cause I do enjoy browsing just to see some of the things, Finally caught up with her, She was in a lot of pain, and said she was heading out to the car. I told her I would just look donw a little more cause by this time I felt like someone was stabbing me with a knife. On my way saw a couple more food stands, then a big meat market, stands with pots and pans, vacuum cleaners, pictures, blankets, sheets, etc, but even though they were supposed to be new, ha, they looked really dirty, and I was beginnng to feel sort of dirty too. I had to walk almost to the back of the building and back up the other side before I could get out. Oh boy, I didn't think i was going to make it, I was hurting so bad, I was getting doppie on my feet, if I didn't know better, I would have thought I had too much to drink. haha. Had to stop and sit, stand, anything to rest my back. Finally made it back to the car, half sick by this time. Vel was waiting but she was still in agony too. I laughed when I got in the car. Said, Well Vel, guess this is enough of Cowtown for another year, She said yea, or maybe 2,3,or 4. It really is a great place to visit and shop if you like that, but neither of us are shoppers. We didn't buy a thing. One thing we learned is 90% of the
stands were run by Spanish, Orientals, and Indians. We felt like we were
in a foreign country. There were a few places with English speaking
people. It sure is an experience to go there. Cowtown has been there for
many years. I remember it when I was a kid. We always looked for the big
cowboy. Well after we left, we decided to head down toward the Delaware
River, and go to CrackerBarrel, mostly to use the br. Just love that
place, expecially the gift shop. Everything is always so pretty and up
to date on forth coming holidays. We decided to have something to eat,
haha, had walked off the hotdog, Ended up having grilled Meat Loaf, with
Let.and Tom. It was good, and of course we had an apple dumpling with
ice cream. We just shared it, and the serving is pretty big. That was
delicious, Don't do dessert very often, but have to go against what we
know is right, now and then. After we ate we went into the gift
shop. Vel bought a Halloween decoration, looks like a ghost with
sneakers on, and when you touched the head it arms would come up, looked
like wings. and they would flop up and down. really cute. Think it said
something but I couldn't understand it. Anyway, am sure her grands will
enjoy it. I bought what looks like a haunted castle with ghosts, and
kids around it, with tree branches and each branch holds a small candle,
has glass shades. really cute. Now will wonder what the heck to do with
it. Since my cats are always up on the desk or on the fireplace. Have to
worry about them knocking it over. Oh well, I liked it. plus all the
things were on sale. Both things were 20.00 but got 25% off, so that was
good. Well again we are a moaning and groaning with back pain, so we
head home. It was a great day and did enjoy ourselves, but gosh no dead
ends, and we didn't take any roads to no where. since we knew where we
were headed. Haha, wrong on that, we did get sort of lost, when we got
to where Cracker Barrel is. We could see it, but had made a wrong turn
and had to drive down a road we had never been on and turn around. It is
sort of complicated there, have to go up and around a big turn like we
were going over the bridge to Delaware, but get off the last exit.
Actually were looking for Rt. 49. We did come in on a different road.
and I had no idea where we were, and Vel didn't either for a few
minutes, but we finally made it. We got home near 7pm. Beautiful sunny
day too. http://www.njsouth.com/index-cowtown.htm |
