Chapter 31
September 29, 2004
Well, I really don't know where to begin. Vel picked me up at 1 pm, and of course we had no idea as to where we were going, so when we got out on Rt. 50, about 3 blocks from here we headed westerly direction. Was sort of overcast but cool so that was good. We went up to Mays Landing, our county seat, along the Egg Harbor River.

The water was as smooth as glass
|
with lots of boats anchored out in the water, really a pretty
view. There are some beautiful big homes along the river with their own
private docks for their own yahts. We decided we would head out toward
the Black Horse Pike.

We took back roads. passed a Historical iron works
there is a nice park there and the water runs through under a bridge.
People go canoeing there and sometimes the current is really fast and
can be exciting for those who enjoy that kind of thing. I think this
area is called Weymouth. Old area. Well we continued on through lots of
farm areas and giant blueberry farms. One of the things Jersey is noted
for.
We finally came to the Black Horse pike but somehow we came in the
back way of a town called Hammonton, and we were on the White Horse
Pike. Funny when we got there, we couldn't make a right hand turn, had
to go down to a shopping area and then come back onto the road. We
continued on up that pike, just talking and laughing about kids, and
reminiscing about work, and telling each other about our dumb dreams we
have and trying to figure why the heck we dreams such nonsence. Finally,
we get about 40 miles up the road, and decide we really want to get back
to the BHP. haha. another detour, up and around another highway, heading
to Williamstown, Came out where there is a well know diner, Geets, It
has been there forever. anyway, we make a right turn and head west
again. I think Vel was looking for some high school where they have
football games, so maybe we could go see one sometime. We rode around
and about, saw lots of strip malls, housing development, beautiful big
homes. | | | Has sign up, Affordable housing, starting in the low $200,000's.
Hahaha, affordable for who, sure as heck not us. We wonder where people
get all that money. Plus some of them were for seniors only. Lol. | Anyway
we went through all kinds of places. We saw a RT 47, which is one of
those roads that Vel and I drive on when we are down in the area where
we were last week, Vineland, Millville, Salem and Riverside. We laughed,
but realized it does go as far as Camden right near Philadelphia. Well
needless to say we didn't want to be on that road, so Vel made another
turn, and now heading south, started looking for a place for a late
lunch, and a P stop. We drove through Deptford, Blackwood, Cross Keys,
Washington Township, and lots of other places that we knew of but never
saw them from the back roads we were on. Finally came to a stop sign.
Vel asked me where we were, haha, sure I knew as much as she did. Then I
looked for a sign and sure enough, We were back on Rt.47. Have no idea
how we got back there cause we had been up and down different roads.
This started us laughing so hard we were both in tears. Both of us had to
go for a bathroom stop by this time and still hadn't found a place to
eat. Lots of fast food places, but we being the great travelers, wanted
to find a nice little quaint restaurant so we decided to head south on
47 cause we knew it would bring us down to a less traveled area. | |
| The
traffic was pretty heavy, bumper to bumper when we got to stop lights.
Finally, we were at a light and Vel said, "I am getting off of here" and
made a right. | It was for a U-turn, but for Rt. 47 North. OMG, it was
hysterical, We sure didn't want to go back the way we had just come but
here we are sitting at the light, all kinds of signs with an arrow
facing north only. So do we go north, no way. Vel only knows how to make
right hand turns, so we turn right, and here we are still on RT. 47 and
still heading south. We crossed a lot of roads that we know we had seen
before but maybe a mile or two to the east or west of us, and in another
town. We were still looking for a place to eat, but no luck, Finally got
made some more turns and got back on the Black Horse Pike, Ahhhh, still
nothing looked familiar, but we knew this road would take us areas that
we know. Well from there on we just yaked about where we had been and
where we didn't know how we got there. Here we come riding back and we
finally saw a place we were familiar with. LOL, Geets Diner, just
ahead. We laughed at ourselves. Here it was almost 5pm. Drove all those
hours, didn't go anywhere, didn't know where we had been, well, wouldn't
have been able to retrace it on a map. and we end up in Williamstown
at the same diner that was on the corner. We had a nice dinner.
Vel had Roast Beef tips, Haha, talk about a huge portion, looked good
though,
| and I had broiled filet of flounder with crab meat. |
After we
left there, we headed home. Arrived here near 7pm. Really had a
fun-filled day of laughing, moaning and groaning, haha, mostly when we
went to get out of the car. Talk about two old grannies, hobbling into
the diner with our legs crossed. It was so much fun, looking forward to
our next outing to nowhere. Until then, hugs to all. Vi and Vel.
VI I SURE DO ENJOY OUR TRIP WHEN YOU WRITE ABOUT IT. I DID SAY
YESTERDAY,'DON'T EVER ASK ME TO RETRACE MY STEPS' I ALMOST WAS DIZZY
FROM ALL THE TURNS AND CRISSCROSSING WE DID. LOL IT'S JUST A GOOD
THING WE DON'T HAVE A DEADLINE OR DESTINATION WHEN WE START OUT. WE
WOULD NEVER MAKE IT. WE DO HAVE FUN THO. SOMETIMES I FEEL I NEED A BUTT
MASSAGE WHEN THE DAY IS OVER. OH I KNOW THAT DIDN'T SOUND RIGHT BUT IT
IS THE TRUTH. I DO HAVE HEAT IN THE SEATS SO THAT FEELS GOOD ON THE
LOWER BACK. NOW IF THEY ONLY HAD SEATS WITH MASSAGE IN THEM. HAHA
