Chapter 30

September 2, 2004

Hi everyone, Just want you to know I am alive and still existing. I don't know where the time goes, or what I have been doing. haha, actually nothing, but the days slip by.

Vel and I did get out for a ride the other day. We went down to Cape May and sat on the boardwalk. Boy it sure was hot. One thing down there, you can park right beside the walk and don't have far to walk to the steps, that is if you can find a parking place. Cape May is one of our great resort areas.
Very quaint, with lots of big homes that are mostly Bed & Breakfast Inns.
Their main shopping area is closed to traffic and the street is made of red bricks down the center, lined with sidewalk. They do have benches and umbrellas placed here and there, plus several sidewalk cafes. Have horse and buggy rides and an old trolly type bus that will take you on tours.

The boardwalk is actually made of cement and is about 4 ft above the street and not that long, Has benches places about 25 ft apart all along it. you can sit and watch the bathers and all the goings on. Some people fly big kites, play volley ball, and of course you can surf there but only at certain places or in the evening.
The steet is very wide that runs parallel to the walk and on the opposite side it is lined with small business, lots of restaurants, and a few huge hotels, one of them being Congress Hall that has been there since the 1800's.
It has had several fires but they just rebuild it. Has a lot of history attached to it. Have read several books about Cape May.

Anyway, after we left there we just meandered back to our area and had dinner at a new restaurant on the back bay. We sat by a window and could watch the fishermen coming in. No big boats cause the bridge doesn't open, and actually it is more of a creek that runs out to the bay.

I had shrimp and Vel had oysters. We decided we could share it, just to see how it was.

Very disappointed, was bland, absolutely no flavor, couldn't tell one from the other. our broccoli was cold, haha, I am not that fond of it when it is cooked right, rather have it cold with a dip, We thought the place was expensive for where it was. Service wasn't that good either. I never did get my coffee, and it took a while for it to register with the waitress that she didn't give Vel her sour cream for her baked potato. Maybe we will try their lunch or breakfast sometime, but not for dinner. Not this year anyway. We allow for the fact that it is a new place. Still the waitress could have been more tuned in to what she was doing, haha.

After we left there we headed back to where I live. Really was a nice day, but no excitement. Like those dead ends and not knowing where we are. Maybe this fall when Vel feels a little better. I feel bad for her, I used to be able to take the wheel for her but not since I had my accident. Not a very good co-pilot anymore, Darn, I love to drive. Oh well, guess we will survive. So my dear friends, other than that, no excitement in my life.

Oh yea I went to my last uncle's funeral yesterday. He was 96 and lived a full life. Not a blood uncle, His wife was my Mom's sister. But he had been around for so long we all loved him. He died on their wedding anniversary. Would have been 73 yrs. My aunt and him did celebrate their 70th together. Wow. that is a life time. Hope everyone here has been doing ok. I have to read and catch up. Have a great holiday and especially a safe one. Hugs to all. Vi
