My Dad's Day

Last year this time they dedicated the Somers Point Beach in memory of my father. It is now called "Bill Morrow's Beach". He did a lot for the town but especially for the children. Through some of the efforts of former members of his Boys Club they now have a scholarship fund that is presented to 2 seniors of the local high school."Mainland Regional". Tonight they are having a gathering of people who have come to town to celebrate the first annual drawing of the names of the students who will received the scholarship. It is just a social nite at the fire house and will be nice to see some people whom we haven't seen since last year at the dedication. Tomorrow night is the big night at the fire house. There will be a nice party. Also tomorrow we have our Good Ole Days picnic at the local Park. It is really a nice big park, lots of trees. picnic tables. swings etc. a great family place to go. You can see the view from the park here on my sig. They have sold 50-50 tickets at 100.00 a ticket , sold over 700 tickets. That will be a lot of fun. Nice for someone to win that. 50% goes to the scholarship fund. Then on Sunday they are having a golf tournament for the fund also. They have around 50 foursomes to play and each one has to pay 50.00 and then they have sponsors for each hold, some holes have more than 5 sponsors or more. This costs $50.00 also. So it looks like they will make a bit of money for the scholorship. There is 2 men formerly boys club members that have done very well in life due to my dad getting them scholarships to college when they were young. Both of them were from a family of 9. We were all poor back in those days and from what I remember everyone cared about each other, and my dad helped many a kid keep on the straight and narrow path to become good citizens. Anyway. they have donated $50.000 in honor of their parents in memory of my Dad to start off the fund and will match every year what the local committee can come up with. That is why they are having this annual affair. I am so proud to be a part of this and to have been one of six kids in our family. We sure did have a wonderful childhood, poor but oh so much fun, lots of love and happiness in our household. My day was a real neat guy. Loved to play the piano and the guitar. haha. we had many a singalongs on cold winter nights. Well I again wrote a page of history but I hope you get some enjoyment from reading about my life as a Morrow kid. Have to run now, but will keep you informed about this great weekend. Lots of love and hugs to all.. BTW. The beach dedication is in my albums from last year for all you new grannies, if you would be interested/. Home Town Park in Somers Point,NJ.
