Molly was a beautiful black cat. She was sweet and friendly and she loved little children. She lived with a little girl named Betty. Betty loved Molly very much and they were the best of friends.
Halloween was the favorite time of the year for Betty and Molly. Molly's Mom would make matching Trick or Treat costumes for them. Like most cats, Molly didn't really like to be dressed up in cat clothes, but she would put up with it once a year. After all, it was for Betty. More importantly, it was for Halloween: that favorite time of the year.
Another important thing about Halloween to Betty and Molly were the Trick or Treat goodies they would bring home. Molly had a sweet tooth and Betty would always share the loot with her beloved friend. NO CHOCOLATE, THOUGH! The caffeine in the chocolate is bad for kitties and it might make them very sick, so Betty never gave Molly any of the chocolate in her treat bag.
One Halloween, Betty got very very sick with a cold. Everybody knew she would get well in a couple of days, but she was too sick to go out for Trick or Treat. Betty cried and cried and begged her Mom to let her go just for an hour, but her Mom knew best and Betty wasn't allowed to go.
Molly was disappointed, too, because she had really looked forward to all the sweets it now seemed she wouldn't get to eat.
Molly climbed up on Betty's dresser to take a nap. Then, she got an idea. Could she use the mirror to make two of herself and send one of her selves out for Trick or Treat? Hadn't she seen something like that in one of Betty's cartoons on the television? Sure, she had! All she had to do was look in the mirror and say the magic words and there would be two of her! Of course!
Molly thought hard. What were those magic words? Visions of Trick or Treat candy were dancing in her head. She had to have those words! Then, she remembered them: Alamagam, Alamago, Alamagoo, Alamablam! She stood in front of the mirror and stared into her reflection there. She was so excited she could barely meow the words. She knew she had to do it. She had a terrible sweet tooth.
"Alamagam, Alamago, Alamagoo, Alamablam!" she meowed triumphantly.
Betty was resting in her bed sound asleep. She didn't see Molly's magic twin, but Molly did. Molly named her twin Polly and told her what she wanted her to do. Then, Molly put the Halloween costume on Polly and out the door she went. Door to door went Polly, gathering treats for her new friends while Molly stayed home with Betty.
Polly came home with the biggest bag of Trick or Treat loot Molly had ever seen. There were plenty of treats for the three of them! Molly's sweet tooth would be happy for weeks! Molly couldn't wait to see the look on Betty's face when she saw all the wonderful goodies. She jumped down from the dresser and woke Betty up by rubbing her whiskers on her face.
"What is it, Molly?" Betty mumbled sleepily.
Molly showed her all the treats and introduced her to Polly. Betty was so happy! She didn't miss Halloween after all! Her friend Molly the Black Cat had saved Halloween for her. And, she had a new friend! They all sat on the bed and ate Trick or Treat goodies until they fell asleep. NO CHOCOLATE for Molly and Polly, though!
