Hi, My name is Shirley and I am very new to the internet. This is my first try at making a homepage, so I hope that you will let me know how I am doing. (Actually, I have other pages now, but I'm sentimental, so I didn't want to change this paragraph except for the years my husband and I have been married.) Let me tell you a little about myself. I live in Florida now, but am originally from West Virginia. I am a Christian wife and mother and have been married to the same man for 46 years. (WOW!!) We had 5 children...4 boys and 1 girl. (See update below.)

I became a WSI (water safety instructor), because my children were taking swimming lessons and I also had the opportunity to learn so I could help. I taught swimming for about 20 years. I still teach occasionally.

I am also a former Sweet Adeline. I took part in quartet and chorus competitions. I even directed a small chorus for a while. It was a wonderful experience.

My hobbies....I guess you could say writing music and poetry (when I have the time). I've had two songs published in a hymnal, and my trio performed a song I had written for a benefit that was given for a little boy.

I am now homeschooling my grandchildren which live with us, so I am learning and doing things all over. I love it. I guess that's about all I can think of for now. I hope you will enjoy your visit to my page.

Update: I'm down to my last grandchild. The other two have grown and are now on their own and doing very well. By the time I finish with my youngest grandson, I should have a college degree.:-)

SAD NOTE: We lost our son Mike in June, 2009. We miss him very much.

Update: We are now in the year 2013. My husband and I have been married for 55 years (again, WOW!). Home schooling is over and I'm now very involved in our neighborhood association which I helped to start. I also volunteer with the Police Citizen's Crime Watch and Mobile Patrol programs. I'm also on the Crime Watch Advisory Board.

Update: We are now nearing the end of 2017. How time flies. I am still involved with our neighborhood association, but, I am no longer on the Crimewatch Advisory board. I resigned when they renamed it Neighborhood Watch. I'm on the Parks and Rec Board now. I also am no longer with the Hollywood Police Mobile Patrol. I will be volunteering with the Hallandale Police by working with Parking enforcement.

Update: The year is now 2023....WOW! Not too much going on. I was volunteering with the Hallandale Police Dept., but the virus put a stop to that. Hopefully they will start back up soon. I am still with the civic association. My husband and I have now been married for 65 years. That's another WOW! It's pretty quiet now...no more babies, husband is retired so like I said, nothing much to do but watch tv.
