At the same time, though, I'm happy for having had such an inspirational character in the family. I hope that he knows now in the afterlife what a positive and lasting influence his example has and will continue to have on me. Please give Aunt Polly my love and let her know that she will be in my thoughts. Awhh, I was saddened to hear about Clyde. He is dancing up in Heaven right now with all the ladies. He will be missed. Love, Becky (a former dance partner of Clyde's) Thank you for the kind thoughts about my father. We grew closer over the years, especially after he moved back to New England. Part of this is Polly's doing. I lost my mother when I was 19 and I still think of her often, especially around the holidays. Yes, Brad is our oldest living relative. I think Betty (Uncle Roger's daughter) may be close to the next oldest, but I would have to look it up in one of the books that my dad made. My mom's sister and brothers are all gone. There is only one aunt-in-law left now that my dad is gone. I first met Clyde at a Howlett Family Reunion many years ago in West Townsend, MA. At the time I considered him to be a good-natured country bumpkin. Little did I know what a talented, creative person he really was! After he moved back East to stay with his cousin and caretaker Polly Soberg, I was amazed to notice his accomplishments. Not only did he create a massive genealogy, but set up a workshop in the basement where he put the pages together in bound volumes. He had woodworking equipment there also, and among other things he installed a handrail for the stairway to the basement. On the deck outside his bedroom, Clyde had a weather station and a hydroponic garden. In his nineties, he was still productive and still looking for ways to be inventive! So sorry to hear of the death of your cousin Clyde. Although I didn't know him personally, I do know how important each member of our families are. Losing someone is not easy, but it sounds like he had a wonderful long life, and many happy memories. It reminds me to cherish each moment of each day that we have here on earth. Time passes so quickly, doesn't it. I always find this Irish Blessing appropriate at time like this - my sympathies. May the road rise to meet you May the wind be always at your back May the sun shine warm upon your face May the rain fall soft upon your fields And until we meet again May God hold you in the hollow of his hand. |
