By Nancy Murdock - December, 1996 The title of the program tells it all. Mom leaves us a tremendous legacy, a model for living as God intends us to live. I used to kid Bob that I married him for his mother. I never once heard her speak ill of anyone, and I have known her since I was age nine. An hour after learning of Mom's death, I arrived at lunchtime Bible study in time to hear the leader say that when a person truly gives his/her life to God, then when something not so good happens, the person doesn't change and start acting differently. "He's describing Mom!" I thought. Mom never raged at her loss of memory and freedom; she just joined in whatever was going on, whether it was a beauty pageant, a chapel dedication, or a visit with her eldest child. She was always hospitable, even when she had only a tiny space in her room and didn't know who we were. She never lost her charm. When all else was lost and only the essence of Mom was left, it was easy to see that this essence was composed of goodness, love, and faith. She is an inspiring role model for us all. |
