SHE MADE ME FEEL AT HOME
Bob Murdock

Nancy's mother was kind to me from day one, treating me like one of her family. When I showed up at the house to take Nan out on a date, it was "Hello Bob, nice to see you," not "oh no, not you again!"

It was like that all during our courtship. After Nancy and I revealed our decision to get married, it was Edna, bless her heart, who arranged a very unusual wedding for us.

She had found out through the local Clover Farm grocery store that its parent company, Central Wholesale Grocers, was planning a big food festival in Worcester, Mass., which would be highlighted by an actual marriage at the skating arena. So she put in our names, we were accepted, and our portraits appeared in newspaper ads inviting the public to witness this epic event!

That's how I found out that how resourceful Edna was, and as time went on I noticed that she didn't let anything get past her. Better not tell a fib, because she will know. I never met another person who seemed to have such a keen awareness of everything going on.

Edna lived only about ten more years after we were married, but I cherished her as a kind and wise mother-in-law.
